So Today…

…I heard from someone who has never been unemployed in his life and who is a successful businessman that as a “hiring employer” he doesn’t want to hear from a candidate that they are accepting “government assistance” if they are currently unemployed.  He won’t hire someone who says they are on unemployment.

He stated that he’d rather they lie and say that while they are currently unemployed due to no fault of their own, they are living on their savings and retirement money.  Excuse me?  They’ve paid into a system that is there specifically for their use should they ever need it.  Why should they go through their savings and retirement FIRST, thus creating a situation of possible total impoverishment when the time comes for them to retire?

I’m still awaiting his reply to my query as to why he won’t do that.  Film at 11:00 or whenever he replies.  IF he replies.  Snort.

  1. I find it odd that an employer would prefer that a job applicant LIE rather than tell the truth. That says something about this person. Times are hard. There’s a lot of people who are collecting unemployment that they PAID into. There’s no shame in doing what you need to do to get by. Hold your head high.

    • Jan, nothing surprises me about employers anymore. They don’t actually prefer that we lie, but they’ve set it up so we have to lie. Then, if they catch in the lie they’ve created, they use it as an excuse for not hiring us. Corporations sleep so closely to our government officials that they have almost total control over what our government does. Currently those of us who are still eligible are receiving benefits. I expect to see legislation passed cutting those benefits, because Corporate America (who downsizes us so they can keep their shareholders happy and then won’t hire us because we’re unemployed) will decide they are paying too much in unemployment insurance.
